In recognition of exemplary contributions to healthcare in our Community, Nationally and Globally The Medical Staff Association is asking for your nomination of a physician whose volunteer medical services extend beyond the hospital walls, for the 2021 MSA Humanitarian Award.
DR. STEPHEN GARNETT AWARD
OPEN TO ALL MSA Members
Nominations for the Dr. Stephen Garnett Distinction Award will include excellence in the following areas:
CLINICAL • Involved in some distinguished aspect of clinical activities (present or previous) at Hamilton Health Sciences • Local, national or international recognition in some aspect of clinical activities or program • Role model for the learners • Excellence in clinical care
ADMINISTRATIVE • Showed distinction in some aspect of administration: department level, Medical Advisory Committee or Medical Staff Association • Contribution to Hamilton Health Sciences mission (champion to the cause)
MEDICAL STAFF: • Outstanding contribution to Medical Staff Activities
AMBASSADORIAL: • Ambassador for Hamilton Health Sciences in local, national or international forums.
PRESIDENT'S AWARD

• Contribution to Medical Staff Activities, such as education, mentoring
or other extra activities that benefit the Medical Staff

• Ambassador for Hamilton Health Sciences in local, national or international forums

MSA President's Award, June 2026: Dr. Ed Dore
Dr. Dore was appointed to Hamilton Health sciences May 26, 1976, surpassing 50 years of service; he held a medical leadership position as Head of Service for Oral Maxillofacial Surgery from October 1, 1999, to July 31, 2024, and he continues to hold an Active appointment in Oral Maxillofacial Surgery and Pediatric Dental Surgery. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor, surgery at McMaster University. Dr. Dore was honored at the RCDC Convocation in Halifax in 2025.
He has dedicated his entire life to his craft and is available whenever called upon by patients or colleagues, providing exemplary care to his patients at HHS.
He is a kind gentleman, with an immense clinical skillset; always available to help patients and takes on a tremendous workload.
His combination of skill, kindness and being a superb team player makes others want to aspire to reach such milestones and remain completely consistent towards such goals.

This past year at Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) has been full of change as we responded to the pandemic. While the impacts were different across each team and service, none were left untouched. Thank you to all physicians and residents for your outstanding contributions and your commitment to patients.
While an in-person event could not be held again this year to celebrate the recipients of the Medical Staff Association (MSA) awards, we would like to extend a special thanks and congratulations to the recipients of this year’s MSA physician awards.
